Update to the best interests decision confirmation workflow
Where treatment is being provided in a patient’s best interests, and in the absence of a lasting power of attorney or similar, confirmation of the decision was previously restricted to the assigned responsible clinician.
Feedback from clinicians highlighted that this could create unnecessary operational challenges, sometimes resulting in local workarounds, and did not always reflect the reality of clinical decision-making.
From this release, any clinician may confirm the best interests decision in these circumstances, provided they assert that they are an appropriate clinical decision-maker.
The best interests confirmation page has been updated to reflect this change, with guidance on identifying the appropriate clinical decision-maker and documenting the decision appropriately.
NHS CIS2 (Care Identity) authentication
Support has been added for NHS CIS2 (Care Identity) authentication, the NHS Care Identity Service’s modern authentication standard. We expect many organisations to enable CIS2 for Concentric login over the coming weeks and months.
When organisations enable CIS2 login, users will be able to authenticate using their NHS Care Identity. CIS2 supports a range of authentication approaches appropriate to different clinical and device contexts, including biometric, smartcard, and NHS.net Connect (NHSmail) login.
A streamlined, organisation-aware login experience
Organisation-aware login URLs have been introduced, directing users straight to the authentication method configured for their organisation where login is required. This reduces clicks, lowers the cognitive load of remembering the correct login route, and avoids frustration when selecting the wrong method.
Getting started guides will be updated to include the new organisation-specific login URLs. We recommend using these URLs for browser bookmarks and desktop shortcuts to ensure users are directed to the correct authentication method.
Semble document integration
Semble is a leading patient management system widely used in private practice. Following the introduction of patient demographic integration in release 95, we have now added document integration, meaning that all consent summary PDFs will be automatically sent to the linked Semble deployment.
