Browser support policy

Concentric supports the vast majority of browsers and devices used by clinicians and patients. Our approach to browser support is based on ensuring that statement remains true, whilst also considering data security, given the nature of the data held within Concentric.

Clinician application

The Concentric clinician application (i.e app.concentric.health) aims to support devices and browsers that are both currently receiving security updates and are not infrequently seen in our usage logs.

Due to the fact that clinician users may have access to a large number of patient records within Concentric it is not appropriate for devices and browsers which no longer receive security updates to be supported due to the increased risk of security compromise. This is in line with National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) guidance. Clinicians are directed to this page as part of our onboarding guides to ensure that they are aware of the requirement to use a supported browser.

A wide range of both automated and manual quality assurance (QA) is conducted on our clinician application. While it is not practically possible to test all combinations of devices and browsers, we test on a representative sample informed by the usage patterns we see.

In line with the principles outlined above, testing aims to ensure that Concentric is fully functional across the latest production release of the following browsers:

Desktop browsers: Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Safari (macOS), and Mozilla Firefox.

Mobile browsers: Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Safari 15 and above (iOS), Samsung Browser, Mozilla Firefox.

As per NCSC guidance, operating system and software updates should be applied (ideally by enabling automatic updates) to ensure ensure data security.

It is not appropriate to use Concentric using devices or browsers that are no longer receiving security updates (termed obsolete products).

The following are example device and operating system minimum requirements in line with the above guidance:

  • Windows 10 and above on desktop, using latest Edge, Chrome or Firefox.
  • macOS 12 (Monterey) and above, using latest Safari, Edge, Chrome or Firefox.
  • Any iOS device running iOS 15 and above, using latest Safari, Chrome or Firefox.
  • Any Android device running Android 12 ‘Snow Cone’ and above, using Edge, Chrome, Samsung browser or Firefox.

Patient application

Use of the Concentric patient application (i.e patient.concentric.health) is supported on a wider array of older devices compared to our clinician application. This is due to the risk associated with device compromise being lower (only a single patient’s data), and that in practice we observe that patients access Concentric on older devices than clinicians.

Patient app supported browsers

A wide range of both automated and manual quality assurance (QA) is conducted on our patient application. While it is not practically possible to test all combinations of devices and browsers, we test on a representative sample informed by the usage patterns we see.

In line with the principles outlined above, testing aims to ensure that Concentric is fully functional across the following browsers:

Desktop browsers: Safari 12 and above (macOS), Google Chrome version 86 and above, Latest Microsoft Edge (e.g. 126), Latest Mozilla Firefox (e.g. 127)

Mobile browsers: Safari 12 and above (iOS), Google Chrome version 86 and above, Latest and preceding Samsung Browser (e.g. 24, 25), Latest Microsoft Edge (e.g. 126), Latest Mozilla Firefox (e.g. 127)

As an example, this results in support for:

  • Apple iOS devices running iOS 12 or above - such as the iPhone 5s released in 2013.
  • Android devices running Android 7.0 (Nougat) or above - 7.0 was released in 2016 and was made available on certain devices released prior to this.
  • Apple macOS devices running macOS 10.12 Sierra or above - such as Macbook Air models from late 2010.
  • Windows devices running Windows 10 or above.
